Know more about the Bible…

Composed of sixty-six books, written by more than thirty different authors, over a period of more than sixteen hundred years, written in three languages: Hebrews, Aramaic and Greek: The Bible is the inspired Word of God.
The 66 books of the Bible is not a typical book. With an ordinary book, you begin on page one and read through to the end, but because the Bible is a collection of books, you may approach it differently. You may want to study a particular passage and spend focused time in that specific place.

If you want to learn and know about Jesus, you can start with the Gospels. There are four Gospels. The word 'gospel' means good news.

  • Matthew
  • Mark
  • Luke
  • John

All four gospels present Jesus as both the Son of God and son of man. They all record His baptism, His teachings and parables, His lifestyle and principles, His selection of the 12 disciples, His miracles, casting out demons, His betrayal, trial, crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection. However, each writer does so in a slightly different way, recording additional details or emphasizing one aspect more than the others.

Or you might perhaps choose to read and study one of the 39 Books of the Old Testament and their divisions or learn more about the early church and the life of Peter and Paul.

Wherever you choose and whatever you read and study in the Bible, as you examine the verses, ask yourself a few application-type questions.

Are there any promises that I can claim in these verses?
Is there a command that I need to obey?
Are there any sins that I need to avoid?
Is there an example to follow?
What encouragement or comfort may I gain?
What new perspective is God showing me?

God has given us His Word to nourish us through every stage of our Christian development. It is "pure milk" for newborn believers (1 Peter 2:2) and "solid food" for the mature (Hebrews 5:14). You can feed on the Scripture every day for the rest of your life and never exhaust its storehouse of nourishment. May God richly bless your study of His Word.
