The 9 gifts of the Spirit

In this lesson we will learn that the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are needed to do the work of God. God wants us to use the gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit in our family, cell groups, and as we minister to people in church and in public places
Acts 2:17-18.

1 Corinthians 12:1-7.

The Greek word for Spiritual is "pneumatikos" and means things of the Spirit.
Paul was writing to the church, the body of Christ.
Important notes
1. Don't be ignorant of the gifts of the Holy Spirit :
A. Verse 1 – "Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant."
B. Verse 3 - When the gifts of the Spirit are in operation it will proclaim Jesus Lord.
C. Verse 7 - The Spirit distributes the gifts to each one as He wills. 1 Corinthians 12:8-10.

There are "diversities" of Gifts meaning "different". All gifts are supernatural.
2. The nine gifts of the Holy Spirit can be divided into three important categories:

A. Revelation gifts – Reveal something.

1. Word of wisdom – Reveals future events in God's will, purpose and plan to assist us and others.
2. Word of knowledge – Supernatural revelation by the Holy Spirit of certain facts that have happened in the past or present. This gift can also be manifested through vision(s) – see Acts 9:10-12
3. Discerning of spirits – The ability to receive insights into the spirit world distinguishing the presence of angels or demons, the human spirit whether good or evil, and the Holy Spirit.

B. Power gifts – Do something.

1. Gift of faith – Supernatural endowment by the Spirit into a person that enables him/her to believe and receive what is spoken by God or what the person believes and spoke to God.
2. Working of miracles – A miracle is a supernatural intervention in the ordinary course of nature. The gift of working miracles enables a person taking action in cooperation with the Spirit to bring about a change in the ordinary course of nature. Often involves protection and provision.
3. Gifts of healings – Supernatural healing of disease without natural means, delivering the sick and destroying the works of the devil in the human body by the laying on of hands, word of knowledge, spoken word of authority or by a point of contact (ex: Handkerchief – Acts 19:11-12)

C. Utterance or Vocal gifts – Say something.

1. Prophecy – Supernatural utterance in a known language of the word of God for that moment.
2. Tongues – Supernatural utterance by the Spirit of God through a person in a language they have never learned.
3. Interpretation of tongues – Supernatural showing or revelation by the Spirit of the meaning of utterance in tongues. It is not a translation but an interpretation.

SCRIPTURE MEMORY VERSE

1 Corinthians 12:1 - "Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant."

In conclusion, remember that all 9 gifts of the Spirit operate by faith. They don't operate by the gift of faith but by the common or general faith given through the Word.
